The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the school. The Board is made up of five Trustees elected by parents of children at the school, plus a staff Trustee and the school's Principal.
Board meetings are held once a month, and anyone is welcome to attend as a visitor. Meeting dates are available in the school events calendar, and the agenda for each meeting is posted on the school noticeboard one week prior to the meeting.
Email the Board Chairperson if you wish to raise a matter for the Board to discuss. (We so recommend that you talk to Nigel in the first instance, as many day-to-day issues can be dealt with at a management level.)
Kirstie Wardle (Chair)
I was elected in June 2011 on a by-election and have taken on the role of Chair. As a working parent with (almost) two children at BPS, Matthew in year 2 and Christopher to start in December, I wanted an opportunity to be involved in the school. I work as an Human Resource Advisor and believe that the skills from this role transfer well to supporting and developing our school. Please contact me if you have any ideas or suggestions that you’d like incorporated into the planning for Birkenhead Primary.

Mark Neville (Health and Safety)
I was elected to the Board mid 2010 and hold the Health and Safety portfolio. My background is in Communications and Emergency Management. I am an operational manager and trainer in the New Zealand Fire Service. My aim is to ensure Birkenhead School is a safe and friendly environment for students and staff.
Paul Rankin (Finance)
I am the father of a wonderful daughter Chelsea who is in Year 4 this year at Birkenhead Primary. I work for BNZ Partners over the North Shore. I have been in Banking all my career and have recently achieved a Diploma in Personal Financial Planning, which is a field I am interested in. Education is vital to our children; having the very best teachers and environment is imperative to their learning.
Simon Lough (Property)
Nathan Villars (Trustee)
I was elected to the board in June 2011. My background is in education and I am currently Principal of ACG Sunderland College in West Auckland. I was educated on the North Shore attending Northcote College and the University of Auckland completing a BSc and Graduate Diploma in Teaching. My wife and I believe strongly in educational choice and confidently enrolled our daughter in Birkenhead Primary.
