Dear Parents and Caregivers

We are off to a good start for the year. The children seem to have settled in and are under way with their learning. Can you please urge your children to speak to their teacher, or another staff member, if they are having any problems at school.

Our pool has been painted, filled, and is almost ready for use.

Life Education: Harriet is here, and the children are having their first lessons in the caravan - air conditioned too!!!

Handwriting: One of our focus areas this year is on handwriting. You may well notice your child writing sloped letter forms, instead of straight up and down forms. Our approach is based on 'Teaching Handwriting', from the Ministry. This is an old publication, but it was based on very solid research at the time into how best we help children to write effectively. We will be able to talk to you at the Information evening - see calendar.

P.T.A. News:  The group met last night, and is intending to stage all usual annual events. First up is the 'Camp-at-school' night - March 4th.

Home-link Book - We are getting the children's Home-Link Books set up. These will include your child's Reading Log, their Homework, and communications pages, and once we have set up Spotlights for the children, these will be pasted into the Home-Link book for reference.

ACEs - (A Citizen of Excellence) - just a reminder that, when one of the staff see a child doing something really kind for another child, or a teacher/adult, the teacher can award the child an ACE card. The ACEs all go into a Lucky draw at each assembly. The children take the ACEs home on the Monday. When a child has three ACE cards, they are awarded an ACE Certificate. If your child brings an ACE or Certificate home, then you should be very proud of their community spirit.

Important Reminders

Contact details: Please remember to let us know if any of your details (address, phone or email) have changed.

Medical Register: Please update information where needed and replace any medications that have expired.

Bell times have changed.  School still begins at 8.50 but morning tea is now 11.05 to 11.30 and lunch time is now 1.00 until 2.00pm.

Can you help?

Smartmoves begins in Week 3 for Room 5 children and some Room 2 children.  These sessions will run 9-9:40 each Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. In order for this to run smoothly we do need a number of helpers. We have planned a parent information and training afternoon on Thursday 11th February. If you are able to help with a session (or more) please let Ms Mac or Mrs Rees know.
