Dear Parents

It has been a really busy term. I am sure that children, teachers, and parents are looking forward to a break, with some time to ‘re-charge batteries’. Thanks to all of our staff for a great term, and well done children on your commitment to your learning.

Farewell to Mrs Sadler, and staffing changes for next term:

We say ‘Goodbye’ to Mrs Sadler this afternoon at assembly. Rebecca has worked at the school since 1995, and has been a wonderful member of staff. We wish her well for her move to Wilson School, and thank her for all she has done for children, teachers, and parents in her time at our school.

Miss Little is teaching full weeks in Room 4 every third week of the term, in addition to her regular Thurs and Friday with the children. This is to allow Mrs Grant a little more time to lead her team, particularly the three new team members.

Mrs Jennings will be teaching Room 3.

Mrs Lyles will be teaching Room 2 from Week Five, when Mrs Couldry goes on maternity leave. Mrs Lyles will be teaching Monday to Thursday. We are still finalising the Friday teacher.

Mrs Nair is going to be teaching Room 6 on Wednesdays, to allow Miss Little to do the extra time with Room 4.

Mrs O’Connor will be teaching our Room 8 - (the other half of Room 5) New Entrant children.

Matariki celebration - I know that many of you really enjoyed the evening. It was informal and fun for all, with the children enjoying a night at school.  reduced.jpg      girls reduced.jpg

Unaiki Thein of Room 14 was nominated for our Young Leaders Award, presented on Tuesday, as part of Sir Peter Blake Leadership Week.  Well done Unaiki!

Triangles- 313 interviews were booked this time - thank you parents for your continued support for the children’s learning.

Health and Safety

Absences - If your child is not going to be at school for the day, please notify the OFFICE by either emailing absence@birkenheadprimary.school.nz or phoning 4807365 and leaving a message on the absence line.  Messages left with teachers sometimes do not get through to the office staff, hence you may get a phone call, which is not only worrying for you but also time-consuming for us.  Thanks for your cooperation to ensure that all children are accounted for as quickly as possible each day. .

Please DO NOT PARK in the drop off/ pick up zone at the lower gates by the mall. This area is very busy in the mornings/afternoon and we need the cars to flow through so traffic doesn't back up and children aren’t getting out of the car in the middle of the road. Please  carefully pull in and drop off/pick up your child then carry on through safely, do not leave your car unattended. Thanks for your cooperation.

Can you help?  Parents - can you tell me where I might find some driftwood - easy to access, close to Auckland  - smaller pieces that could be used in a children’s 3D artwork. Please email me nbioletti@birkenheadprimary.school.nz

BOOK WEEK – Term 3, Week 2.  Monday, July 30 – Friday, August 4.

The theme for this year is ‘Myths and Legends from Around the World’.  We would love parents or grandparents or anyone from the many cultures we have at Birkenhead Primary,  to come and share their own special traditional Myth or Legend with their child’s class.  Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like to do this.

This could also lead to ideas for the Friday morning dress up parade. We hope to see dragons, taniwha, Roman heroes, Greek warriors, Irish giants, and many other mythical characters or creatures in our parade.

The school is also hosting a Book Fair during that week.  You will be able to buy books for home, and/or a book to donate to school, each day before and after school.  This isa major fundraiser for our Library and we get a percentage of sales, so we really appreciate your generosity.

Ice Skating at Birkenhead Primary!

The Ice Skate Tour rink will be set up in the school hall: Friday night August 4th 5-8pm, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August from 10am-5pm.  $7 per child, $35 per family. Also featuring sausage sizzle, hot chocolates, crafts, popcorn and more...
