Mihi wera ki a koutou mo te wiki o Matariki!!

There’s a lot going on!!

Experience Pasifika - Pasifika 2.jpg

The children to enjoy this learning, the Pasifika Centre in Henderson could not cope with our numbers, so their wonderful staff came to us. I am sure that your children have described the fun learning experiences the ladies provided for the children, all the while infusing their talk and their actions with the values of the Pacific. Their re-telling of Ina and the Reef, making use of some of the children to act the parts of the love story was just hilarious - we will definitely be inviting them back. Our sincere thanks to all of the ladies.

Matariki evening tonight!!!!

Please join us to celebrate Matariki - it will be a fun night for everyone, with kapa haka performances from the very impressive Birkdale Intermediate group, and our own wonderful tamariki; story-telling; moko painting; food and coffee; night walks in our Lawson Reserve; don’t miss out - we have not done this before, and we want everyone to be there for our matariki tuatahi!! Special thanks to Toni, Wiremu, Kiriana, and the roopu for giving parents and children this experience.

Note:  The lower gate will be open from 4.45-5.30pm and again from 6.45-7.30pm.

Share the Arts - Another marvellous time together as a school community - sharing our arts. Well done to all of our wonderful performers and thanks parents and whanau for joining us.  Special thanks to Mrs Lapuste for her organisation.

Te Reo-a-thon - He mihi nunui - just a reminder that you can collect sponsorship money over the weekend. Many, many thanks to those who have already returned their sponsorship forms and money. Any last minute envelopes can be handed in at the office this afternoon or Monday morning 8:30-9am. The money from the athon will be spent on reo and tikanga teaching resources, some kapa haka resources, and help support the use of the reo in our school and community.

**Thanks for the lovely messages I have received, acknowledging the value the athon learning has added for the children. NB.

Look what CSI have been growing!

We helped weed the orchard for Matariki, and picked some HUGE radishes (which are yummy), along with other fruit and vegetables.  The CSI barrow will be at Friday's Matariki celebrations, where you can purchase some of our organic, BPS grown produce for only a gold coin.  Extra  produce welcome.  Newly made Kawakawa Balm will also be on the barrow.

Proceeds go back into the garden, and our mouths!

BOOK WEEK -Our annual Book Week is coming up and the theme for this year is ‘Myths and Legends from Around the World’.  We would love parents or grandparents or anyone from the many cultures we have at Birkenhead Primary, to come and share their own special traditional Myth or Legend with their child’s class.  Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like to do this.  This could also help with ideas for the  dress up parade on Friday morning.

We hope to see dragons, taniwha, Roman heroes, Greek warriors, Irish giants, and many other

mythical characters or creatures in our parade.  The school is also hosting a Book Fair during that week. You will be able to buy books for home, and/or a book to donate to school, each day before and after school.  This is a major fundraiser for our Library and we get a percentage of sales, so we really appreciate your generosity.

SPORT:  Basketball and Miniball pay and play slips are due in by next Friday 7 July please!

Have a great weekend,

Nigel Bioletti,

Principal
