Camp at School:  Just a reminder that no children are allowed to be at the Camp at School night unless they are with their parents, or a family adult, or if arrangements have been properly agreed with another school family beforehand.  The evening is OK, but parents are expected to be responsible, so that everyone gets to enjoy a trouble-free evening.  It is alright to bring your car onto the field, but please do not take up any more parking space than you need to, and please drive very slowly.

Safety - Parents, please talk to your children about safety-  care around the tents with tent ropes, care with car doors.  Childrn should definitely have their shoes on once it gets darker.

Special Request - Please help ensure that the shells on the walkway around the field stay put - not for making lovely patterns  on the grass!!!

The ELL Group (English Language Learners) have been doing an amazing job while working with Ms Little in the Mini Classroom. Many of the children have been focusing on adding more detail to their writing.

Here is an extract from a piece of writing that Rawan Zafiri has been working on:

I was standing right next to the button, then I pressed it.  Here we go!! Suddenly the elevator started to whizz and bang.  My heart was beating like a drum.  Then it stopped and the doors squeaked open. There were windows all around.  I felt happy because I saw a beautiful view of buildings and the crystal clear water of the Harbour.

Waterwise is underway for our Year 6s.  Groups from Rooms 14 & 15 & 17 are taking part.  Last Thursday, on a perfect summer day, they sailed optimist dinghies and kayaked to Watchman Island.  Each Y6 child will have two opportunities to take part in Waterwise and Year 5s will get their turn in Term 4.

Phrase of the Week, and for camp night, in Te Reo - Tinopai to Kanikani (very good dancing); tinopai to waiata; tinopai to whakaari (acting).

Year 3 children have been lucky to work alongside NZ artist Brydee Rood this week as part of their art days with Miss Houghton.  Their completed climate change themed fans will contribute to a larger installation of 500 fansto be installed in TEMP at Corban Estate Art Centre next month in a public exhibitionIt would be great for our families to head out to view the final art work.  For details, follow the link http://www.tempauckland.org.nz/

Room 16 (Y5 & 6, Ms Johnson) children went ‘shopping’ at maths time.  They were learning how to add up the prices of kai items in an easy way.  Zoe showed me how to work out the total price of a bunch of bananas at $1.99 and some courgettes at $4.50.  She rounded the $1.99 to $2, added thatto $4.50 to make $6.50, then took away 1 cent to make it right.

Excellent strategy Zoe, this way you were able to do all the calculations in your head.  Zoe said she enjoyed playing with numbers like that.  Alice Ho
