Malo lelei katoa!

Many thanks to Vaisioa and Mrs Vai, to Sharon Hansen (Eddie’s mum), and to Frazer Mataitonga for coming in this morning to share some Tongan language and traditions with the children. Vaisioa, Mrs Vai, and Sharon had all dressed traditionally for the occasion. Teachers had prepared the children for the visit, and they responded so well. Here Vaisioa has dressed Daniel Warner from Room 4 in traditional Tongan attire, such as would be worn for church on Sunday.  Eddie is proudly displaying the Tongan flag.

Frazer talked to Panuku children about the fundraising he is doing through the Mataitonga Trust - to help disabled children in Tonga. He is doing a 1000 km walk around four of the main

islands of Tonga to raise money for the trust.

Buildings update: Due to pressure from the Board, the Ministry has now arranged for two temporary classrooms to be sited at the school, to ease our accommodation pressures until a firm plan can be drawn up for the school’s future. This of course was all started in 2014/15, but halted when the Ministry realised it had a multi – multi-million dollar bill on its hands for roll growth classrooms, new schools, and leaky building repairs. It would be good to think that this school might, at some stage in the near future, get a comprehensive rebuild similar to what is happening for Northcote Primary. The temporary classrooms will be sited down the side of the top court, which will take out some of the top court play space. They will be connected to the back of the senior block with a covered walkway.

Triangle meetings: Please make sure that you book your triangle meeting online. To do this, go to: , enter our school code  8qj2k and select your preferred time.  The booking site closes at Noon on Thursday 21 September.

Did you attend Birkenhead Primary as a child? Do you know of someone who did?

It will be a fun catch up time - with a quiz time and prizes kindly sponsored by Good Home management - eg What significant building was removed from the school site in 1994/5?  Go to ‘Birkenhead Primary Alumni’ on Facebook.

Some sad news this week from our very much respected and loved Hari Singh, who was Caretaker here for many years.  Hari's daughter Shampreet died on Father's day - only 38 years old, and mother to a 10 year old lad. A lot of us attended Shampreet's amazing wedding here at School. Several BPS people attended the funeral yesterday.

Kids for Kids choir - Parents please check your child's bag for a notice about the rehearsal and performance on Monday 6 November. We also need three more parent helpers for the rehearsal trip that morning.

Congratulations to ALL our rippa rugby teams, and especially to our Year 3/4 A boys team who came first overall!

HUGE congratulations to Toby Caro, Room 14, who has qualified for 4 different events in the Auckland Winter Swimming Championships. Toby will be racing in these events over 3 days this coming weekend.  Good luck Toby!
