The School
Birkenhead Primary is a U5 Contributing school. it takes children from 5 years of age to 10/11 years of age: Years 1 to 6. After Year 6, the children move on to intermediate schools in the Northcote/Birkenhead area.
The school has a roll of about 340 at the start of the year, and takes about 50 New Entrants to finish the year on about 390 children. It has been agreed by most involved with the school that the grounds will only support that roll, and that the school should not be forced to cater for more than 400 children.
The school has a staff of about 30 personnel: fifteen class teachers, seven support staff, and grounds and administration staff.
The school is located in the heart of the Birkenhead shopping district. It is surrounded by roads, commercial enterprises and the Birkenhead Bowling Club.
The school is quite nicely laid out, sloping down to the north, and with a mix of modern architecture and older pre-fabs and a large junior block. The school has two entranceways; easing congestion at each one. The school has a small heated swimming pool which is ideal for teaching junior children to swim.
If you attended the school, you are always welcome to visit us; we will arrange for some of our senior pupils to take you on a tour of the school; spot the changes.
