CSI - Conserve, Secure, Invest
The school has an active enviro group which looks after our bush reserve, maintains the school gardens and orchard and undertakes projects to encourage native fauna within the school grounds. Our Weta Hotels, decorated beautifully, will be placed in the Lawson Reserve. We have continued planting and weeding the reserve, and have started a special fern garden by the gate. CSI Leaders regularly monitor water quality and invertebrates in nearby Le Roy’s Bush.
Our Kapa Haka group meets weekly to learn new waiata (songs) and practice performance. The group performs at many school occasions as well as in the neighbouring mall. The group works towards participation in the North Shore Kapa Haka festival held at Onepoto School in November. Membership is open to all children throughout all levels of the school.
Walking School Bus
A walking school bus is just like any other bus except that children walk the route to school, supervised by Parents and Grandparents, creating a safe and social journey to school. Children are collected from marked stops along the route and dropped off within the school gates. Along the way they have an opportunity to socialise and learn about road safety. We have two WSB routes, coming from different directions within our community. Walking buses begin their run at 8.30am in order to arrive at school before the 8.50 start of the school day. They walk the reverse route in the afternoon, to be met by Parents at their stop.
Running Club is open to children from Year 3 up who would like to increase their fitness, train for Cross Country, and work towards the Auckland Marathon’s children’s event. We cater for walkers and joggers, as well as our top runners. We run one-two days a week, outside of school grounds; around nearby streets, and through local bush tracks and parks.
