Current BPS Board
  • Jo McDonald (Chair)- I have been involved in the board at BPS for five years and I love that the school is in the heart of the community and has so many past students as parents and they proudly send their kids there as well (mine are 4th generation in our family to attend).  We have a great community spirit, and our kids are proud of their school. It takes a village to raise a child and our teachers and leadership are a critical part of that team which I enjoy working with. As a board member, I have focused on the property side of the school and ensuring that we have the best facilities possible, which are modern and fun to learn in. I am really proud that we will open our new classroom and administration block in 2022. As a Professional Development Manager, it’s been great to bring my day job skills to the board and advocate for our Tamariki and hapori with the MOE to get the improvements done.

  • Jared Honore- Our family has lived in Birkenhead for 20 years now and love the area; we have one son at BPS, with the other having already graduated. Ruth served on the PTA for a number of years, and I’m also keen to invest my time and energy to add to BPS’s strong legacy. My focus is to help BPS be a welcoming place where learning and connection occur together and where a strong school culture spreads outside the school gates and into our shared community. I bring a professional career with global experience across finance, commercial, and operational roles, mostly with Air New Zealand.

  • Naomi McRae- I am a Birkenhead local and have two cricket-mad boys who are currently loving their time at Birkenhead Primary School. As a board member, I am particularly interested in neurodiversity in the Education system and how to ensure the best outcomes for both academic learning and social development for neurodiverse children in the school environment.
I am also a trustee of the Birkenhead Primary School Learning Trust, and in these combined roles, I help the school build on its reputation for excellence and encourage a strong sense of community.
In my professional life, I lead a charitable organisation in the corporate sector where we work with low decile primary schools across Aotearoa, raising both financial literacy and reading literacy capability, as well as running a governance placement programme for the not-for-profit sector.
Prior to this, I had an established career in Human Resources, so I bring robust people management skills and perspectives to the board.

  • Sarah McGregor - I have lived in the Kaipātiki area for most of my life and have three children who attend Birkenhead Primary School. I am a Psychologist and I have spent many years working within the Education sector in New Zealand and understand the challenges that schools face when supporting children with diverse learning needs. I am passionate about all tamariki reaching their potential and supporting teachers to have the tools and resources they need to be great educators.

  • Henry Taefu - newly appointed.

  • Alice Saunders (Staff)

  • Francis Naera (Principal)
